Welcome to our February newsletter. We would like to draw your attention in particular to the recent review of the Core Content Framework and Early Career Framework.  A single curriculum ITTECF Framework was launched on 30th January 2024. Within this, the DfE have listened to feedback from schools and Teaching School Hubs particularly with respect to SEND, mentor capacity, subject specificity, duplication of content and progression from one year to the next.

We see this to be a positive step forward to recognising some of the concerns schools have experienced.

Richard Gill, chair of the Teaching School Hub Council, has discussed the ITTECF in this TES article. Damian Hinds, the Schools Minister, has an article in Schools Week.

Appropriate Body

Our AB focus throughout the last term has revolved around Progress Reviews and Assessments, with an effort to provide valuable feedback. Recently, several emails have been circulated to Induction Tutors and ECTs regarding strengths, areas for improvement and feedback.

If you are aware of any outstanding progress reviews or assessments at your school, we kindly ask that you complete them at your earliest convenience. Should you have any concerns or queries, please don't hesitate to reach out for assistance.

Quality Assurance Visits

As part of our commitment, we strive to visit a minimum of 10% of the schools in our area. These visits are conducted with the aim of providing support, highlighting good practices and offering any necessary advice. The selection process takes into account factors such as Ofsted ratings, new leadership, or a significant number of ECTs. We thank you kindly for your continued collaboration!

Early Career Framework

Frequently Asked Questions for ECF Mentors:

The mentor training will still be accessible to mentors to complete, should they wish to for their own CPD. Once a mentor has completed the mentoring programme, you will be considered a 'Fully Trained Mentor' this means you will continue to have access to the online learning materials to support future ECTs but you will not be expected to attend any live training events.

I am a new ECT mentor. Why do my mentor learning blocks feel out of sync with my ECTs?

This is because, whilst the ECT completes their official entitlement of the Early Career Framework Programme, mentors are also encouraged to undertake their own bespoke mentor training, which is not the ECF itself, in order to best understand and support the process for their ECTs. This may mean you are completing different learning blocks at different times to your ECT.

EDT have given mentors access to all 12 learning blocks so that they are able to support ECTs no matter what stage of the programme their ECT may currently be. We also have a recording of a session to support mentors in this situation (please email SCrowley@cptshn.co.uk if you would like access to this).

NPQ applications are closed whilst we wait for confirmation from the DfE on the future of NPQ funding.
